In the course of his work as a psychotherapist, Nachshon has developed a compassionate style that focuses on personal strengths and innate talents in order to introduce light, life, and health into his clients' lives. His work is based on a foundation that encourages clients to identify and increase what is positive and powerful in their lives in order to open natural pathways out of unhealthy thoughts, circumstances, and behaviors. Nachshon's dynamic and positive manner - combined with his belief that each of us has a vital role to play in the world - has helped many people to work through their challenges and fulfill their unique potential.
Nachshon's private work incorporates a wide variety of counseling, consulting and education services, including: individual, couples and family counseling; parenting classes; substance abuse education and treatment; and individual and group clinical supervision.
Over the past twelve years Nachshon has reached a broad spectrum of people in his work specializing in substances abuse, trauma, and mental health issues. He is the Program Administrator for Mental Health and Substance Abuse Treatment for the Denver Department of Human Services, Child Welfare Division. Nachshon is involved with several local initiatives, such as: the Mayor's Office of Drug Strategy, Colorado Drug Endangered Children, and the Denver Collaborative Project. He is especially proud of his work with Baby Steps - an inter-agency program offering substance abuse interventions and case management services for pregnant women and mothers of substance-exposed newborns. His reputation as a highly effective therapist has earned the respect of his peers who search him out for his deeply insightful clinical guidance.
In 2007, Nachshon led a collaborative effort that culminated in the awarding of a three-year, $2.5 million federal grant to the Denver Department of Human Services from the Children's Bureau of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. In addition to his previous duties, Nachshon is now the Program Director of Denver EFFECT (Entire Family-Focused Comprehensive Treatment) - a family-focused, collaborative pilot project that integrates the child welfare, substance abuse treatment and criminal justice systems to coordinate care for families affected by substance abuse. In Denver EFFECT the individual addict is no longer the client, but rather, the family is the client. Denver EFFECT partners provide a multitude of services which include: (1) individual, group, and family therapy, (2) trauma-informed and gender-specific substance abuse counseling, (3) psycho-educational multifamily groups, (4) child care, (5) criminal court advocacy, and (6) case management services. In addition, Denver EFFECT therapists provide referrals for pediatric and developmental assessment and care, domestic violence, mental health, and vocational services, aftercare, and transportation. Preliminary outcome data suggest that Denver EFFECT helps families achieve sobriety, maintain custody of their children or keep them with family, increase coping skills for emotional stress and improve the quality of their relationships. Denver EFFECT has been recognized by the Children’s Bureau as one of the leading family-focused programs of the fifty-two grantees across the country.
Three years ago, Nachshon entered the mentoring and training community of Dr. Gordon Neufeld - having been inspired by his best-selling book, Hold on to Your Kids. Every facet of the book rang true to him as both a therapist and the father of four young children. He traveled to Vancouver, BC for intensive training to become a facilitator of Dr. Neufeld's method. Nachshon became certified as a facilitator of Dr. Neufeld's ground-breaking video series, Power to Parent - The Vital Connection. Upon certification, he successfully taught the video series for a wide variety of groups, including foster parents fulfilling county-ordered training in order to care for children in the social service/welfare system. Although Nachshon is no longer offering these classes, his work has been profoundly shaped by his exposure to Dr. Neufeld's methods. Nachshon has created original and interactive workshops filled with meaningful tools that can be implemented immediately in families with children of any age.
Nachshon received his MSW from the University of Utah Graduate School of Social Work and is a practicing Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Colorado. He and his wife are the proud and active parents of four great kids.
